New Year, New Faces

Cunningham | Quill Architects welcomed the new year with many familiar faces and a new addition to the firm. We are proud to announce that Cunningham | Quill Architects has been joined by Benjamin Ames, AIA.

Ben Ames, AIA is the newest Associate of Cunningham | Quill Architects.

Former Principal of Amestudio, Ben has experience designing projects from North America to Europe. Ben earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Georgia Tech and his Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland. His work considers all aspects of design in his approach and reflects various influences, particularly his years studying and working in Paris and Rome. His work has received recognition from design awards, competition prizes, and publication features. Much like our own design philosophy, Ben believes that "an open, collaborative design process can allow clients, consultants, builders, and artisans to impact the design and share its success."

15 Projects in 15 Weeks: Cibo Restaurant (Week 1)

One of our earliest projects was Cibo Restaurant in New York City.

Located in the Daily News Building, a National Historic Landmark, the restaurant was designed to reflect the grand character of the building and its surrounding professional community of advertising agencies, attorneys, and architects. In collaboration with the Owner and the Chef, we designed Cibo as an architectural complement to the rich yet uncomplicated flavors of the Mediterranean food.

A curving membrane wall separates the service/kitchen areas of the restaurant from the dining rooms and bar. Interior finishes and fabrics seek to complement the natural materials of the architecture while warm, low-voltage lighting highlights the Tuscan color of the interior elements.

Cunningham | Quill Architects Celebrates 15 Years

To celebrate our 15th Anniversary, we've taken a look back to see how far we've come. When Cunningham | Quill Architects began in 1996, there were only two employees, Ralph Cunningham and Lee Quill, in a small Georgetown office at 2529 P Street NW.

Fifteen years later, Cunningham | Quill Architects is 23 employees strong, on two floors of the Canal Square Building at 1054 31st Street NW. Ralph and Lee have since been joined by Scott Matties, AIA, LEED-AP (Principal), Chris Morrison, AIA, LEED-AP (Principal), and David C. Bagnoli, AIA (Associate Principal) as leaders in the firm.

Through the years, the scope of our work has grown. Our portfolio includes over 300 projects, from fifty square feet to hundreds of acres. Over the next fifteen weeks beginning Monday, we'd like to share some of these projects with you.
